As water temperatures rise into the mid-60s to low 70s, bass push up into shallow sandy flats, looking for ideal spots to lay their eggs.
Right now, we're averaging 20-30 bass per trip, with the majority weighing 2 to 4 pounds. However, we're starting to catch 6-8 pounders weekly, and double-digit fish are starting to show up in prime bedding areas.

Best Lures & Techniques for Spawning Bass

During the spawn, bass become extremely territorial, aggressively striking lures that invade their bedding zones. Here are some of the best lures we’ve been using to target spawning bass:
🎣 Soft Plastics:

Texas-rigged Senkos & Stick Baits (Green Pumpkin, White, or Black & Blue)

Flukes & Soft Jerkbaits (Watermelon Magic and June Bug)

Crawfish & Creature Baits

🎣 Bed Fishing Baits:

White Tubes & Jigs – Easy to spot in shallow beds

Speed Worms – Perfect for finicky bass guarding beds

Ned Rigs & Compact Craws – Agitates big females into striking

🎣 Reaction Baits:

Jerkbaits & Swimbaits – Great for aggressive males protecting fry

Topwater Spooks & Poppers – Explosive bites in warmer afternoons

Lipless Crankbaits – Covering water in transition areas

While live wild shiners are always a great option for catching bass, we’re catching the majority of our fish right now on artificial lures, making for an exciting hands-on experience.

Weather & Water Conditions in Central Florida

Spring weather in Orlando is near perfect, with daytime temperatures in the 70s to low 80s and cool mornings in the 60s. Water temperatures on Lake Butler and Lake Conway are hovering around 68-72°F, ideal for peak spawning activity.
The water clarity on Lake Butler is crystal clear, making sight fishing incredibly productive. Lake Conway, known for its sandy bottom and scattered grass patches, also offers excellent visibility for targeting big bass on beds.

Sight Fishing for Spawning Bass – Lake Conway & Lake Butler

One of the most exciting techniques during the spawn is sight fishing for bass off their beds. Both Lake Butler and Lake Conway have shallow flats with sandy bottoms, making them prime locations to visually locate and target bedding bass.
🔹 Step 1: Locate the Beds
Using polarized sunglasses, we cruise along shallow areas looking for circular white spots on the bottom, which indicate bass beds. Often, you'll see the male bass guarding the nest, with a big female nearby waiting for the right moment to move in.
🔹 Step 2: Present the Lure
Once we locate a bass on a bed, we use soft plastics or jigs, dropping them right into the nest. The key is to agitate the fish until it reacts. Sometimes, it takes multiple casts, but once that bass decides to protect its bed, it explodes on the bait!
🔹 Step 3: Set the Hook!
Patience is key—once the bass picks up the bait, a quick, firm hookset ensures the fight is on. Landing a 6-8 pound bass in shallow water is one of the most adrenaline-pumping experiences in Florida bass fishing!

Book Your Orlando Spring Bass Fishing Charter Today!

Spring is peak season for catching trophy largemouth bass in Orlando, and dates are filling up fast! The Bass fishing on The Butler Chain of Lakes in Orlando is phenomenal during our colder months. The reason for this is because the lakes are much deeper than your average lake in Central Florida. The Bass are schooled up in big numbers looking for slightly warmer water, which makes catching a bunch of them all in one spot highly likely. Once we locate these large schools we use a variety of lures to get bit. Texas rigged senkos, Jerkbaits, Swimbaits, Texas rigged Flukes and Alabama Rigs have produced the most fish for us. We do use live bait as well, but we are catching the majority of our fish using artificial lures.

The other major factor when fishing this time of year is finding the Shad. Our Shad become very active and will form giant bait balls which the Bass are heavily feeding on. Once we locate these bait balls it's game on. It looks like your ocean fishing with birds dive bombing the water and bass busting the surface. We are having major success when this happens on the Butler Chain, and it's happening pretty much every day right now.

Myself, Captain Dave and Captain Rick can't wait to get you on some fat and happy Largemouth Bass. We are having to start very early to avoid the afternoon heat, and the first three hours of the day is when we catch most of our fish. Don't let these warm temperatures scare you away from an amazing morning of Bass Fishing!

All You Need To Know For Summer Bass Fishing

Start times and end times are crucial for having an enjoyable day on the water. We've been starting at 6:30 a.m. and fishing until 10:30 a.m. This is the coolest part of day and will get you off the water before it becomes too hot. We recommend booking no more than the 4 hour trip this time of year. We are catching a good amount of fish during the first low light hour of the day. Fish will be schooling and busting bait on the surface of the water. We've been using mostly artificial lures like swimbaits and baby flukes. As the day progresses the Bass will move into deeper water between 15-25ft. Here well use senkos, swimbaits, flukes, finesse worms, and a drop shot. Live bait has been effective later in the day when the sun gets high in the sky between 9:30 a.m.and 10:30 a.m. We've been averaging around 15-20 Bass a trip! The average fish has been between 1-3 pounds.
Book your trip today and call us at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail.com

Fishing The Bass Spawn! February-March 2022

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/fishing-the-bass-spawn-february-march-2022

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/fishing-the-bass-spawn-february-march-2022#comments

Uncategorized

Pre and Post-Spawn Bass Fishing We are in what most bass fisherman would consider the most exciting season to fish for Largemouth Bass in Florida. This is when both male Bass and female Bass are feeding almost all day trying to get fat before they swim up shallow to spawn. Spawning is when male and female Bass makes a nest, commonly referred to as a bed, in the 10ft to 2ft range. The bed is where the male and female Bass will lay their eggs to make babies. This makes them a very easy target when shallow water fishing! A spawning Bass can be extremely aggressive, and sight fishing for them is one of the most exciting ways to catch a Largemouth Bass. We just started the Spawn and we are catching many males and some females off beds. We will continue to catch a lot of pre-spawn and spawning fish the next few weeks. We commonly use speed worms, creature baits, jigs and flukes when bed fishing. Out in the open water we will use senkos, flukes, umbrella rigs, swim jigs and chatterbaits. This is the time of year when our Bass are big and hungry. Most fish will have a fat belly from feeding so much, and the big females are very active right now too. This time of year is your best chance to catch a trophy sized Bass. We have also been catching Crappie and Chain Pickerel on some of our trips!

Male Bass vs Female Bass

Our Male Bass on the Butler Chain of Lakes in Orlando range from 1-4 pounds. The female Bass are the ones that can grow into that double digit 10+ pound range. A quick way to identify a male versus a female is to observe the shape of their mouth. A male Bass will have a V or U shaped mouth. A female Bass will have a O (round) shaped mouth, hence the term bucket mouth. We all hope to find that big female Bass this time of year!
Book your trip today and call us at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail.com

Fall Bass Fishing Report, Orlando Florida 2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/fall-bass-fishing-report-orlando-florida-2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/fall-bass-fishing-report-orlando-florida-2021#comments

Uncategorized

Bass Fishing in the Fall We are so excited to be receiving some cooler weather here in Orlando. The Bass fishing has been fantastic all throughout October and the beginning of November. If you are lucky and book a charter right before a cooler front hits us which causes a drop in barometric pressure, you will be in for a fantastic day of Bass fishing on the Butler Chain of Lakes in Orlando. We have been catching well over 30 Bass during these conditions, and are starting to see bigger Largemouth Bass being caught daily. The largest Bass we caught in the past week was a 6 pounder. The majority of the Bass we are catching have a fat belly since they have been feeding so much. We are using Flukes, texas rigged senkos and topwater lures daily. Live bait can also be used while we are fishing with artificial lures.
After the cold fronts pass the fishing still remains good most of the time. We will slow down our presentation and downsize our lures to get the bites. Using some live bait while fishing with artificial lures is a great way to get bit during these post cold front, high barometric pressure conditions.
Book your trip today by calling us at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail.com

Orlando Florida Bass Fishing Report, June-September Summer 2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/orlando-florida-bass-fishing-report-june-september-summer-2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/orlando-florida-bass-fishing-report-june-september-summer-2021#comments

Uncategorized

Summer Bass Fishing Captain Austin and Captain Dave have been on a fantastic summertime bite. Since it is the summer we will use a variety of techniques to catch our Bass. What lures work best will vary from day to day but in general we will use flukes, texas rigged senkos, topwater spooks, popping frogs, swimbaits and speed worms. Summer is one of our favorite times to use topwater baits. The topwater blowups are awesome to watch. We have very productive mornings with the bite slowing down right at 11am. We will use spinning rods as well as baitcasters for more experienced anglers. We have also been seeing a lot of Ospreys and Bald Eagles during our fishing trips! On the really hot days we've even gone to the sandbar and had a quick swim to cool down.
We can't wait to get you on the water so give Captain Austin Keaton a call at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail.com to book your Orlando fishing charters today!

Summer Saltwater Fishing Report, June-September 2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/summer-saltwater-fishing-report-june-september-2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/summer-saltwater-fishing-report-june-september-2021#comments

Uncategorized

It's Tarpon and Snook Season! Our snook population has really increased the last few years which is why we are catching so many of them on our saltwater fishing charters. We are catching them using a variety of techniques like live bait, artificial lures and fly fishing. Menhaden and Pilchards are in large schools all along the east coast, making them the best live bait to use right now. We are casting the live bait around mangroves and deeper channels for the Snook and Tarpon. We have had a fantastic summer catching Snook and Tarpon using the fly rod as well. Fly fishing for Tarpon and Snook is one of our favorite ways to catch them. The strikes are very visual and powerful. We've been catching a good amount of slot sized Redfish and Seatrout as well. Any baitfish lure like a jerkbait or fluke has been very productive for the artifical bite.
Give us a call at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail to book your saltwater fishing charter today!

Central Florida Bass Fishing Report, January 2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/central-florida-bass-fishing-report-january-2021

https://www.nativebassfishing.com/fishing-report/central-florida-bass-fishing-report-january-2021#comments

Uncategorized

Winter Bass Fishing Winter time Bass fishing from December through March is a great time to book a Orlando Bass fishing charter on the Butler Chain of Lakes!
