Patience and Timing We started our day working the edge of Kissimmee Grass, looking for baitfish and bird activity. I knew the fish would begin schooling up once the sun came out and the wind picked up a little. We fished the Kissimmee Grass for about 45 minutes, then like a switch the Bass turned on. Birds were diving everywhere, bait was getting blown up out of the water and the bite was on. Bass began blowing up the surface and we were in the perfect spot to make multiple casts at them. We casted topwater plugs and small swimbait lures to get the bites. Both Allison and Ian were hooked up to fish in no time. Her son really had the hot rod this trip and put fish after fish into the boat using the small swimbait. He would patiently work the swimbait beneath the schooling Bass and they could not resist it. The water temperature was 75 degrees Fahrenheit, which is perfect for keeping the Bass active for most of the day. Bait Size and Matching the HatchOur key to success was using a 1.5 to 2 inch white and clear swimbait. The Bass are feeding heavily on Glass Minnows, which are no bigger than 2 inches in length. The water we were fishing was ultra clear, allowing the Bass to get a good look at our lures. Using lures that matched the size and color of the bait the Bass were feeding on, along with light line no heavier than 10 pound fluorocarbon Duraking line, is what put fish in the boat.
