Cocoa Beach Tarpon Fishing Report, August 2020

The Summertime Tarpon and Snook are Here!

This is Captain Austin's favorite time of year to target residential Tarpon on Central Florida's east coast. Cocoa Beach, Florida is a prime area for finding Tarpon, which is one of the hardest fighing fish you can hook into in our inshore waters on the Banana River, Indian River and Mosquito Lagoon. We have also been catching large numbers of big Snook, Redfish and Sea Trout!

Be Prepared for an Intense Battle!

The Tarpon, aka the Silver King, has that name for good reason. Once hooked these fish turn into aerial experts, commonly jumping 5 ft out of the water, making long, hard runs and will give any skilled angler a run for their money at landing one of these magnificent fish. We have been seeing large numbers of Tarpon on Florida's East coast, about an hours drive from Orlando. Fishermen are getting many shots at the fish, and we have been very successful putting Tarpon in the boat. We will continue to target these fish all the way through October. Catching Tarpon is all about presentation, being quiet, persistence and fighting the fish the correct way. We recommend watching a few Tarpon fishing videos if you are not familiar with these fish since landing one can get tricky for even an inexperienced fisherman. The main tip we give our clients is to point the rod tip, or "bow" as we call it, to the Silver King every time they jump. This greatly increases our chances of keeping your fish of a lifetime hooked up and successfully landed.
