The Afternoon Bite

The first question we get asked this time of year is "when is the best time for Bass fishing." Believe it or not, afternoon trips starting at 3p.m. and fishing until sunset have been awesome! We are still catching decent numbers of fish in the morning but we've been having incredible afternoons.

Finding Cooler Water and Active Fish

Picture
Our water temperature on the Butler Chain of Lakes in Orlando has been in the low 90's. If you're fishing a large chain of lakes and you find the lakes that are cooler than the rest. Even if by just a degree you may will to focus your fishing efforts there. Also, if you can find clearer lakes with healthy grass these will be good areas to target. Clear lakes won't get as warm as a stained colored lakes, and healthy vegetation will help put more oxygen into the water. We've been finding most of our active fish in the 15-25ft range. We've been catching them many different ways. Hair jigs, under spins, spinner baits, frogs, topwater spooks, and a-rigs have all been very affective. Throwing Topwater Yum soft body frogs has been a ton of fun in the afternoons in the canals. We've been having some violent, awesome topwater bites. The best bite has been mid afternoon right before the storms hit when we get a bunch of cloud cover. Whenever we get those conditions the fish get extremely active and start schooling and feeding at the surface. Mornings tend to heat up temperature wise, as opposed to the afternoons when we get the wind and cloud cover which cools things off. This is why fishing has been so much fun in the afternoons! Give us a call at 407-455-4521 or email nativebassfishing@gmail.com to book your Orlando fishing charters today!
