Chasing Schooling Bass

On a recent trip with Logan and his son on the Butler Chain of Lakes, the Bass continued to school up and could be seen busting the surface. They have become very active with cooling water temperatures. We have been having great success in the afternoons, looking for balls of bait. The bait can be seen 1-2 feet under the surface with good polarized glasses. I use the Costa Del Mar Jose Wejebe 580g glasses which really help see into the water by eliminating most of the suns glare.

How to Target Schooling Bass

Boat position is everything when trying to catch schooling bass. If you can position your boat upwind of the school, that will allow you to make extra far casts with the wind at your back. Keeping a far distance from the school is important to not spook them away. Another key is to match the size of the bait the Bass are feeding on.
