Winter Bass Fishing

Orlando Bass Fishing Charter

It's a common misconception that Florida Bass don't like the cold. We say the colder the better. We've been averaging 25-30 fish in four hours. The average size were catching right now is 3-4 pounds and were starting to see the big females getting very active as well. We're consistently catching Bass in the 6-7 pound range a few times a week, and we expect this to continue all the way through March.

Lures and Techniques

When the temperature gets cold in Florida the bass will be affected. The Bass fishing on The Butler Chain of Lakes in Orlando is phenomenal during our colder months. The reason for this is because the lakes are much deeper than your average lake in Central Florida. The Bass are schooled up in big numbers looking for slightly warmer water, which makes catching a bunch of them all in one spot highly likely. Once we locate these large schools we use a variety of lures to get bit. Texas rigged senkos, Jerkbaits, Swimbaits, Texas rigged Flukes and Alabama Rigs have produced the most fish for us. We do use live bait as well, but we are catching the majority of our fish using artificial lures.

The other major factor when fishing this time of year is finding the Shad. Our Shad become very active and will form giant bait balls which the Bass are heavily feeding on. Once we locate these bait balls it's game on. It looks like your ocean fishing with birds dive bombing the water and bass busting the surface. We are having major success when this happens on the Butler Chain, and it's happening pretty much every day right now.
